I had to share this sweet FaceBook message from an old friend. Jesse has reappeared in my life sporadically since we graduated high school, usually in some clandestine, I'm-up-to-no-good-and-you're-the-only-one-I-can-trust capacity. In college, he was my source of fake IDs. As a journalist working on a story about the NSA, I contacted Jesse to see if he could help me "bug the Federal building." (Our strategy was a bust, fortunately.) The last time I saw him, we had a secret meeting at the Mexican flea market on Alcoa Highway to discuss computer-hacking. Anyway, I found this touching:Jesse Jordan commented on your link. Jesse wrote: "You know... I've known you since second grade, which means I've known you for twenty-two years or so, which is about as long as I've known anyone on this earth outside of family; and while I've never known you particularly well beyond scholastic endeavors, if there's anything I knew about second-grade-Leslie, it's that she likes the horses. I can't relate in any way; I was always a dog person, and I've never been able to hold onto an interest with any passion beyond six months at a stretch or so. But hey... it's nice to see that some things in life are constants, you know? If I had fulfilled the dreams I had as a second grader, I'd be a mutant turtle, trained in the arts of ninjitsu, fighting crime... or quote possibly a buster of ghosts. Glad someone is living the dream."
Your friend is absolutely amazing.
ReplyDeleteThat is the funniest/most inspiring thing that I have heard in awhile.
Thanks for the inspiration,
